No. PrEP medication can be provided at no out-of-pocket cost with eligible coverage or assistance. Most qualifying plans also cover recommended PrEP visits and testing without cost-sharing, but labs, other medications and visits may be subject to plan or program rules. UAF will explain expected costs before care.
Many qualifying insurance plans cover recommended PrEP-related visits and tests at no cost. Assistance programs may cover some services for people who qualify, but not all lab tests or visits are automatically free. STI tests outside your covered prevention plan, including some walk-in services, may have a charge. We can explain what applies to you.
Discreet delivery is available for certain prescriptions and locations and may be free when the applicable program covers it. Local pharmacy or clinic pickup may also be available. For injectable PrEP, ask about in-office administration. We’ll confirm your options and any costs.
No. PrEP prevents HIV in people without HIV. DoxyPEP is an antibiotic strategy used after certain sexual exposures to reduce the risk of some bacterial STIs for people who meet clinical criteria. A provider can help you decide which services are appropriate.
If exposure may have happened within the past 72 hours, ask about emergency post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) immediately. Call a healthcare provider or seek urgent care; don't wait for a routine PrEP appointment.
Your ability to pay should never stand between you and HIV prevention.
